December News

Our next meeting will be held on December 12 at 6:00pm and is our Christmas Pot Luck.  Hostesses are Eileen Van Dyke, Kelly Stodola and Erica Olson. 

Our meeting began with treats and a trunk show by Sandy Irish. Patterns, templates and fabric available to buy.  Our challenge project for 2014 is any pattern by Sandy Irish, approximately 50" by 70".

Sign up held for anyone interested in being part of a Christmas treat exchange, and also for any who would like to  participate in a Secret Santa exchange($10 max)

Stash buster blocks-add any matching color, make a 12 1/2 inch unfinished block.

Our new officers are:  Vice president, Jean Potter and Treasurer, Linda Justman.  A huge thank you to Patsy Larson and Nancy Maki for the great job they did in those positions for the past two years.

Please bring a donation for the Food Shelf to the December meeting.

Discussed changing meeting time to 6:30pm for the winter months.  A decision was not made and will be discussed at the December meeting.

Grace Place appreciates our help.  Donations of pillows and pillowcases, towels and washcloths may be brought to the December meeting.

Budget request forms from the committees are due. Please get to Linda Justman.   If you did not get a copy there is one attached to the minutes.

Wheelchair quilts need to be binded.  Please take one and bring back to the December meeting.

The date of the January meeting has been changed to the 16th.  Please update your calendar.

Our winter retreat will be held at Oak Forest in Frederic, WI on January 9-12.  Check in is 12noon on Thursday, and we need to be out by 4pm on Sunday. Checks should be made out to Oak Forest and are due at the December meeting.  Cost is $139.50 for all four days, or $95 for Friday thru Sunday. Discussed having scholarships available, but motion failed. We will discuss giving members a discount for retreat at the December meeting.

The quilt show for 2014 will be held on September 27-28 and will have the theme of 'I Spy".

November News

Our October meeting began with a pot luck supper.
Show and tell was held.
Minutes and treasurer's report approved.
Stash buster blocks won by Mary Johnson and Cathy Smith.  The size for all future stashbuster blocks has been changed to 12 1/2 inches unfinished.  Also stashbuster fabric given out at the meeting should be 12 1/2 inch squares.
Raffle basket was brought to meeting by Patsy Larson and won by Meg Tryba.
Thank you notes read. 
Mary Johnson had surgery and is back home.  Thanks to everyone for all your prayers.
This year we will again be having two retreats at Oak Forest in Frederick, WI.  The winter retreat will be held January 9-12 and will cost $139.50.  Sign up for this retreat will be at the November and December meetings.  Checks should be made out to Oak Forest and need to be turned in by the December meeting.  The spring retreat will be held April 4-6 and will cost $95.
Sign-up held for committees and hostesses for the coming year.  Everyone needs to fill out a membership form so we have accurate information for everyone.  Membership dues are $10 for the year and are due at the November meeting. 
Officer positions that are open this year is Treasurer and Vice President.   Linda Justman will replace Patsy Larson as treasurer and Jean Potter will take over for Nancy Make as vice president.  Thank you to both Patsy and Nancy for the great job they did the past two years.
The guild voted to donate $100 to the benefit being held on October 27 for Becky Koehler's grandson Brandon.
We will be getting together on October 25 and 26 at Stanton Town Hall beginning at 9am to make wheel chair quilts for the local nursing homes.
Our challenge project for the next year will be a lap size quilt made from one of the patterns by Sandy Irish.   Sandy will be at our November meeting to demonstrate using her templates.  She will have patterns and templates available for purchase. Sandy will be judging our entries  and also giving a prize to the winners at the quilt show.
There were 321 people that attended the 2013 quilt show.  We made $850 on the show, and $859 on the raffle quilt.  The silent auction brought in $00 which was divided between four local charities.  The bed turning was a success.  At our next show we will do the bed turning more often. It was suggested that we have quilts available for sale at the quilt show.  Winners of the door prizes were:  Judy Brust, Cindy Peer, Betty Schmit, JoDee Johnston, Linda Justman, Becky Koehler, Patsy Larson, and Jean Krumm.  Mary Jo Allison won the subscription to Love of Quilting.

Sewing Days Scheduled!

We will be getting together to make wheel chair quilts at the Stanton Town hall the 25th and 26th of October beginning at 9 AM.  Please bring sewing supplies such as rotary cutters, ruler, squares or whatever quilting notions you use.  Also bring your own lunch or snacks. Bring your own projects if you would like to work on them once the kits are done.,   Hope to see you there!!!

September Meeting Minutes

Show and tell was held as we enjoyed treats.

We did not draw for the stashbuster blocks as we did not have many.  Please bring your 10 1/2 inch block to the October meeting and we will draw for the September and October stashbuster blocks. Please add burgundy and green to the October fabric.

October 25 and 26 will be  sewing days at Stanton Town Hall for wheel chair quilts beginning at 9:00am.  Please come and help.
Sign up sheets for quilt show were passed around.  If you have not entered your quilt in the show, please contact Sandy Balcerek and she will make sure your quilts are included. Please have prices on your items for Silent Auction. Proceeds from Silent Auction will go to several local charities this year.  Sandy Balcerek and Patsy Larson are both collecting the raffle tickets.  Get your leftover tickets and your money to either one.  Props are needed for the show.  We will start setup at 1pm on Friday.  Quilts may be dropped off between 3 and 6pm.  New to our show this year is the bedturning which will take place on both Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. Attached to the minutes are the 2013 show winners. If you have a winning quilt, please bring it to the October meeting for show and tell. 
Vice President and Treasurer officer spots are both open this year.  We will be voting at the November meeting.  Please consider contributing to your guild by helping in one of these spots.
Becky Koehler informed us of a benefit coming up for her grandson Brandon to be held October 27 at the Star Prairie Sports Bar.
Former member Linda Strileke would enjoy hearing from you.  Her email is, or phone 715-781-4647.
Annette Strenger is in the hospital with a pacemaker. Her husband recently had a stroke.
Marie Tiegen has a cancerous tumor and bleeding on the brain. She would enjoy cards from everyone.  She is at Red Wing Healthcare, 1412 West 4th Street, Room 3068, Red Wing, MN  55066.

August Meeting Minutes

OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE AT ST. LUKES CHURCH AT 7:00PM ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2013. Hostesses: Erica Olson, Mary Pagel, Laurie Kroone Our August meeting began with a tribute to Barb Rogers. Barb was one of the founding members or WRPM. We will all miss her, but wish her well as she begins her journey to Washington State. We know some quilt guild will appreciate her special gifts. Show and Tell was held as we enjoyed the treat Voted on challenge quilts. Results are 1) Betty Schmit 2)Gay Johnson 3)Cathy Smith Alicia has her new shop open on the north end of main street. Her hours are M,W,F 4pm - 8pm, Saturday 8am-2pm, and the 1st and 3rd Sundays 11am - 3pm. Items are needed for the Silent Auction. Bring to the September meeting. Monies will be split between 3 or 4 local organizations. Items do not need to be quilted, consider canned goods, jellies, wines, etc. Please have your contributions marked with prices. The price of admission to the quilt show has been changed to $5.00. If you did not turn in your registration forms, please be sure to get them to either Sandy Balcerek or Rhonda Nyhus. Quilts are needed for the bed turning and are due at the Sept meeting. Please bring them in a pillowcase with a label. July minutes and treasures report accepted. Quilting tips to be distributed at the quilt show should be submitted to Erica. There will be five vendors coming to our show. Bookmarks and flyers are available for your use. Post them where you feel interested quilters will see them. There are more raffle tickets available for sale. Contact Patsy Larson to get more. Schedule for workers passed around. If you did not sign up there is a schedule attached to the minutes with the open slots that need to be filled. Please come to the September meeting with your schedule of when you are able to work. Raffle basket was brought by Meg Byron, won by Cindy Peer. Cindy will be bringing a basket for raffle to the September meeting. Stashbuster fabric distributed. Add cream and dark red to the green fabric and bring your 10 1/2inch blocks to the September meeting. Jodee Johnston won the stashbuster blocks from the August meeting. Betty Schmit won the blocks with sayings. Ugly fabric projects are due at the September meeting. Bring your finished project in a brown paper bay for judging. Attached is a flyer that Erica sent to members regarding the Quiltathon begin held at St. Lukes church in October. Let Erica know if you plan to attend so lunch plans can be made. Applique demo was postponed till after the quilt show. Meeting adjourned.

Friday July 12 will be a sewing day at the Stanton Town Hall for the 2014 raffle quilt.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.
New Richmond Education group is asking if we want to be part of the catalog again this year and is asking for a donation.  The guild voted to be included in the catalog with Meg Tryba listed as our contact person.   A $10 donation will be sent.
Challenge quilts are due at the August meeting.  Bring your item in a brown paper bag.  items must be completed to be included in the judging.

 The NR hospital contacted Betty Schmit to see if our quild would be interested in making hats for cancer patients.  Betty handed out patterns to interested member.  Please contact Betty if you did not get a pattern and wish to participate in making hats.
Attached to this email is the quilt show registration form and is due at the August 8th meeting.  You will need one form for each item entered in the show.

June Meeting Minutes

Our June meeting was our yearly picnic held at Eileen Van Dyke's home.  Thank you Eileen for hosting our picnic!!!

Pick up your raffle tickets at the July meeting if you haven't done so yet. 
There will be a sewing day for the 2014 raffle quilt coming up soon.  Date to be announced. 
We need a dozen T-Shirts sold for us to order.  So far we only have 5 people signed up, so we will postpone getting WRPM t-shirts for now.
Betty Schmit suggested holding a sewing day in October to make wheelchair quilts.  Date to be announced.
Show and tell held at the end of our meeting. 
Lots of good food and companionship enjoyed by everyone!

May Meeting Minutes

(Sorry gals, I did not get this posted in time before our June meeting - Kelly)

The June 13 meeting is our annual picnic, held at Eileen Van Dyke's home, beginning at 6:00pm.  Bring a dish to pass and a lawn chair.
Raffle basket was supplied by Hope Dietrich and won by Sandy Balcerek. 
Stash buster  fabric was handed out from Jean Potter,  Linda Justman won the finished blocks.
Kay Rindahl is recuperating from a hip replacement. We wish her a quick recovery.
There are caring quilts ready for members to put binding on, and also kits available to make a quilt top at your home. Please take one home.
Minutes and treasurers report approved and seconded.
The quild decided to donate $25 for the education of local 4-H girls for a quilting seminar.
Kathy Klutzke sent a thank you to the guild for the plant following knee replacement.
Discussed ordering t-shirts for the guild members. The cost will be $13 each if at least 12 are ordered.  Samples of   sizes were available for those interested in ordering.
Raffle tickets given out to members. We are looking for members to give demonstrations during the quilt show.  Please contact the quilt committee if you would be willing to give a demo.
Kelly Stodola  gave a demo on art quilting.   Great job Kelly!!!

25th Annual EAA Quilt Show is Free on August 1
The Lakeside Quilters present the Silver Anniversary EAA Quilt Gathering on Thursday, August 1. A popular event for locals and EAA visitors, the annual show takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 234 N. Campbell Road. The venue is the Oshkosh Senior Center, about four miles northeast of the EAA Museum. There is no charge for parking or admission.

Lakeside Quilters is a guild with more than 100 quilters of all ages and abilities from the Fox Valley. They rent the Senior Center to display their quilts and bring in vendors who give demonstrations throughout the day. Door prizes and an affordable lunch are available. Marilyn Campbell, who initiated the first EAA quilt show in 1988, has been invited to exhibit a retrospective of her own work.

Members of the guild started a quilt last winter to raffle at the showCategories on display include traditional pieced quilts, crazy quilts, applique, fiber arts, and home d├ęcor. There will also be some items for sale. Photos from previous shows are at

April Newsletter

Our next meeting will be April 11 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in New Richmond at 6:30 pm.

Nancy Maki, Rhonda Nyhus, Patience Biedler and Lynn Munson are scheduled to serve in April.

There were a number of show and tell items. Kay told of making "Best Starch" and will send out the recipe to everyone.

Mary Jo brought in the basket which was then won by Hope Dietrich. The basket brought in $11.00.  

It was noted that we are out of forks and cups.  Patsy will purchase some and put them in our bin at the church.

Amotion was made by Cindy Peer and seconded by Linda Justman to accept the February Minutes.

A motion was made by Alicia Rangel Cypher and seconded by Gay Johnson that any materials or supplies purchased with funds from the quild are property of the guild and must be turned in to the guild after a lesson or presentation is done.

Kathy Kloetzke is recovering from her knee surgery.  There were several thank you correspondences for caring quilts, get well wishes, and memorials.

Betty Schmit reported that we gave 4 caring quilts last month. Block kits were available for everyone  to take to make more quilts. 

In April Kelly Stodola will demonstrate Art Quilting. Members do not need to bring any supplies.

Becky reported that there is a new quilt shop open in Stillwater on Highway 5 across from the high school.

Committee reports:
  RETREAT: April 5-7  starting at 8am on Friday and concludes Sunday. Cost is $93.00. Everyone attending is asked to bring a mug. Hope passed out a paper with the information on this. Family and friends could be invited.  At the time of the meeting there were 8 people paid. 
  2014 RAFFLE QUILT: The committee is working on the design,
     *Theme is "Decades of Stitches"
     *The dates are September 28 from 9-4 and September 29 from 11-3.
     *Cost of admission has been changed to $5 per person.
     *There will be a bed turning event. If you have a quilt you want to show, talk to a member of the committee. You must supply the history/story of the quilt which will be read when your quilt comes up to be turned. 
     *Guild members are being asked to give a demonstration on a quilting technique.     
     *Will have a display board with pictures of members and history of the quilt. 
     *Vendor letters have been sent out. We are asking vendors if they are interested in giving a demonstration.  
     *Plan to make more sign boards to be placed in more areas to advertise the quilt  show. 
     *Looking into getting t-shirts with "Got Enough Fabric" printed on them and selling them for $10-$15.
A motion was made by Alicia and seconded by Meg Byrum to NOT buy and  the sell t-shirts at the quilt show.  The idea to purchase t-shirts for members only was tabled. Betty Schmit will check with a local company that has done some for us previously. The company already has our logo in their records.

Alicia asked for some information to take to the Rice Lake quilt show where she is vending to advertise our show.

Retreat April 5-7th Info

Hope sent out an email regarding retreat - here is all the info!

Ah, bliss. Away from home for a long weekend with your sewing machine, your friends (old & new), and a tack of projects you’ve been itching to stitch. Who can resist the lure of a quilt retreat?

The retreat will be held at Oak Forest Center at 2824 130th Street, Frederic, WI 54837. Contact information is 715-327-4500 or

Directions:  From Hwy 35 south of Frederic, turn right on 280th Ave or County W go approximately 3 miles (look for sign) turn right,  it’s approximately 0.3 miles to Oak Forest Center which will be to the left (it’s a scenic drive). If you reach 120th St. you are about 0.9 miles too far.

Arrival time is 8:00 on Friday. Departure is 4:00 pm on Sunday. Do not plan to arrive before or depart after listed times of this contract.

Cost has 2 options for this retreat:
Friday/Saturday lodging, Friday supper, three meals on Saturday and bunch on Sunday - $93.00
Friday/Saturday lodging, two meals on Friday, three meals on Saturday and bunch on Sunday - $99.50
No food or dining ware can be taken from the dining room without prior permission from the food service staff.

Make checks to – Oak Forest Center, the checks for the retreat will be due on Thursday, March 14. Check will be held until retreat on April 5.

General Information: Towels and bedding are provided. No smoking is permitted in any building. No dances, fireworks, laser pointers, pets, alcohol, illegal drugs/paraphernalia, occult activities will be tolerated on the premises. Personal sound systems, radios, and musical instruments may be used only in our group’s assigned meeting and housing area, being respectful of noise level. Personal headphones would be recommended.  Quiet hours begin at 11:00 pm in the housing areas.

Sewing and special items to bring:
  • Sewing machine with cord
  • Extension cord and/or surge protector power strip
  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • Additional lighting or special chair if desired
  • Notions” extra blades for rotary cutter, scissors, thread, extra sewing needles, marking pencils, chalk, rules, small ironing boards/irons as long as they fit in your personal space, flannel backed vinyl tablecloth for design wall if desired, tape to hang on the wall and favorite quilt to decorated your bed
  • Recycle a mug – approximately 4” tall and 3 ¼” across and one decorative (approximately) 1” button
  • 2 fat quarters (quilt shop value)

January/February News

We began our meeting with Show and Tell.

Stashbuster material was given out.  Add any color to your block except black.

Raffle basket was won by Cathy Smith

We will be starting our meetings at 6:30pm until May.  Treasurers report read and approved.  Minutes approved. Bring 1 yard fabric to the March meeting for the musical chair game.  Bring the fabric you end up with back to the September meeting in a finished project.  

April retreat will be held April 5 - 7. Hope Dietrich, Barb Rogers and Lynn Munson are in charge. 

There was not enough interest in the Round Robin/Row quilt.  

At the February meeting we will be doing a make and take. Bring a scissors, embroidery hoop, pencil and a thimble. Meg will be providing fabric, batting, pattern, needles and floss.
Fabric and instructions given out for the challenge project.  Contact Jean Potter if you wish to participate and did not get a packet.

Correspondence read, 3 caring quilts given out.

Kelly Stodola has digitized the WRPM logo.  There is a $5 donation requested if you would like to have it embroidered on a shirt or other article.

December/January News

We began our meeting with our Christmas buffet. Show and tell was displayed at the beginning or our meeting so everyone has an opportunity to check out the beautiful quilts. Raffle Basket was won by Becky Koehler and Jean Krumm won the stash buster blocks. Minutes from the November meeting were ammended and approved. Patsy Larson delivered the money from the Silent Auction and the raffle basket to Five Loaves. It was suggested that next year we split the money between 2 or 3 different organizations. Treasurers report accepted as read. Cindy peer brought fabric for stashbusters to be combined with brown and tan fabric from your stash.

Guild decided to change time of meetings to 6:30pm for the winter months. We will return to the 7pm start time beginning in May.
A plant was sent to Maxine Volkert following her surgery. Six caring quilts were given out. Past member Sharon Warner's husband passed away.

Scarf Tutorial from Julie

Hi everyone! Passing on a message from Julie - she is teaching her scarf pattern to those that are interested at retreat!
To all retreaters:
Anyone interested in making a red heart boutique sashay scarf will need to buy one skein of yarn at either Farm and Home or at JoAnne's and will need 5.5mm or US 9 needles. I will be teaching a class at the retreat this January.
